Attention. Calling all caffeine lovers!
Are you tired of the same old iced coffee routine? It's time to shake things up and give your taste buds the kick they deserve! Say goodbye to expensive coffee shop runs and hello to homemade brews that will take your coffee game to the next level. With a few simple ingredients, you can turn your morning cup of Joe into a flavorful and invigorating treat.
But wait, before we dive into the recipes, let's talk about the most important aspect of cold brew coffee - the brewing process.
All these recipes require a cold brew formula -
Make a brew using a French press by adding ground coffee and hot water.
Use store-bought cold Brew
For an immediate brew or iced coffee base, just add instant coffee powder to some hot water. Let it cool before you use it.
Add cold water to your coffee grounds, stir or shake this mix and let it sit in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours. Strain this and use it.
Before you choose your preferred style of brewing, understand which brew type suits your taste profile better - hot or cold.
Here are recipes for different takes on a glass of iced coffee.
One | Vanilla & Caramel Brew
Add 1 cup of cold brew along with 1/4 cup of milk to a glass with ice. To this, add in some caramel syrup, 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt. Make sure you stir or shake this drink till the caramel mixes with the rest of it.
You can also use frothed milk for this recipe.
Two | Almond & Cinnamon Brew
Add equal quantities of granulated sugar and water to a saucepan along with a cinnamon stick to make a flavored simple syrup. Cook this on a medium flame till the sugar is completely dissolved and let it cool.
Add 1 cup of cold brew over ice in a glass and to that add in the cinnamon simple syrup and 1/4 cup of almond milk. Use the syrup according to the level of sweetness you prefer for your coffee. For additional flavor, you can also throw in a dash of almond extract.
Alternatively, you could also just use some ground cinnamon to your brew instead of the simple syrup method.
Three | Mint & Mocha Brew
Add one cup of cold brew along with 1 tbsp of cocoa powder and simple syrup for sweetness to a glass with ice cubes. Let mint leaves infuse in the simple syrup while you make it to add a fresh minty flavor to your drink.
Pour 1/4 cup of milk into this glass and stir it all together. Top it off with some choco chips and mint leaves.
Four | Banana & Nutella Brew
Add 1 cup of cold brew along with 1/4 cup of milk to a blender with ice cubes. To this, add 2 tbsp of Nutella and half a banana for some extra creaminess. Blend all of this together and serve for an almost slushie-like coffee drink.
This recipe is almost a cross between a smoothie and a mug of coffee.
Five | Whipped Coffee or Dalgona
Add 2 tbsp of instant coffee powder, 2 tbsp of powdered sugar, and 2 tbsps of hot water - whip this mix using a hand blender or a hand whisk and do this till the mix turns thick, creamy, and frothy.
Add ice cubes to a glass and pour in some milk, scoop some of the coffee froth on the top and stir it into your milk before you take a sip.
Six | Toasted Coconut
Add coconut milk to a glass with ice cubes. To this, add some coconut syrup and a shot of espresso. You can top this off with some frothed milk and toasted coconut flakes.
To make the coconut syrup at home, all you need to do is toast some shredded coconut in a pan or in the oven till it turns golden brown. Add this to a sauce man along with 1/2 cup of water and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and cook it over a medium flame. Take it off the heat once it starts boiling and the sugar has dissolved, and keep it aside for about 30 minutes or so to let the flavor of the toasted coconut seep in.
For all the above recipes, you can change the concentration of coffee, milk & sugar according to your own taste and preferences.
Iced Coffee Tips :
Make your brew the night before to have a favorable and room temp brew
If you don't like watering down your brew with ice cubes, one simple hack is all you need! Pour some brew into your ice tray and freeze them to form coffee cubes that you can add to your drink to have a higher caffeine concentration.
To make simple syrup, all you have to do is boil equal quantities of sugar and water in a saucepan till it turns the sugar dissolves. Let this syrup cool and store it.
You can infuse the simple syrup with vanilla pods, cinnamon sticks, or even shredded toasted coconut for more flavor.
If you don't want to add simple syrup to your coffee or even directly add sugar, you can choose to use condensed milk instead which gives you a creamier drink as well.
For a dessert-like twist to your coffee, you can also add some ice cream or whipped cream along with the cold brew for that extra little pizazz.
Are you ready to take your coffee game to the next level?
Grab your favorite mug and let's get brewing!
