Irresistible sugary temptations
Well, I love donuts.
Even 'love' would be a slight underestimation here.
It is almost safe to say that donuts are right at the top of my list when it comes to sweet treats and desserts. So that means I'm a difficult critic when it comes to these sugary balls of dough.
I had heard and read a lot about Voodoo donuts. Almost every vlog trip to Orlando has people going head over heels for this place. What was so great about it? I mean, I had seen many other local bakeries with fancy-shaped and colored donuts too.
So why do I have to go all the way to Orlando to get a taste of this voodoo magic?
When I finally got to Universal City Walk, I saw this brightly lit shop nudged away in the corner. Do you know what made it rather easy to spot? The huge line right outside the store.
I passed every eager customer in a desperate effort to try and make my way to the end to stand in the line and wait for my turn - and I honestly wondered if it would live up to the hype.
Trust me, it most definitely did.
The entire wait and anticipation really began to tingle my tastebuds.
To begin with, as you enter the store, you are greeted with the mouth-watering aroma of freshly baked goodies and your eyes will be in a tizzy because there is just so much to look at!
The store is adorned with fun art, bright lights, posters, and even a donut display carousel right at the center. They even have a donut throne right outside the store where you can take pictures to capture the memories of visiting Voodoo.
The entire experience is lovely and makes you realize why there is a cult-like following for this place.
I still do not know what they put in their treats but these donuts are borderline addictive. I just couldn't get enough! I had to go back there the very next day to get another half a dozen just to satiate my cravings. They really were that good.
The flavors were indulgent and the bread itself was light, airy, and fluffy. All the qualities of a good donut? Check.
I had to try one of each kind the first time. So I got one classic, one chocolate donut, one cake donut, and one fruity donut. They even have their signature voodoo doll-shaped chocolate-covered donut. All the picks were equally good, it made it really hard to choose but if I really had to pick one - it would be the chocolate one.
I tried many more flavors later on and I have to say that some of my top picks among the ones I tried had to be - Portland cream which was a chocolate donut filled with custard cream, and Mango Tango which was a sugar donut with mango pulp filling, Dirt which was a take on cookies and cream and the classic apple fritter donut.
Have I made you drool yet?
No number of reviews and words would be able to give you the real taste of this place and I would say it is a pit stop that has to make its way to your itinerary.
Their tagline says "Good things come in pink boxes" and I must say - I agree!

Tip - If you want to quit standing in the long queue, you can always order a pickup at the mobile store right outside the main store. You will be notified when your order is ready and you can just right ahead and pick it up. However, I would say that if you are a first-timer, it would be better to stand in line because the experience is definitely worth the wait!
I hope you have added this place to your bucket list. The next time you are in Orlando, you know the first place you ought to visit!
Love,
Rae
