Olaplex is a haircare brand that specializes in products used to strengthen and repair your hair. Their products come in a specific routine that needs to be used based on the numbers that they have on their labels.

The product that I have been loving is the Olaplex No.3 for intense hair treatment and nourishment. It is one of the most popular products within their range as well. The patented technology helps in rebonding the broken disulfide bonds for all hair types.

Using this product has helped in keeping my hair tangle-free. My hair also looks much healthier and there is a significant reduction in the split ends as well.

You no longer have to wait in salons to get your hair treatment done at exorbitant prices - you just need your Olaplex kit!

Key Ingredients - Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Phytantriol, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin-E), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Panthenol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Citric Acid, and Potassium Sorbate.

How Do I Use Olaplex No.3?

Step One - Cleanse

Hair treatments work better when applied to clean hair to prevent any barriers between your hair and the product. Any sort of product build-up, dirt, or oils can prevent the product from penetrating into the lengths of your hair.

It is advised to wash and rinse your hair with a mild and gentle shampoo before going ahead with the treatment. This step is not mandatory but it would be better if done.

Step Two - Prep

Brush your hair and divide it into 3-4 sections to ensure the product can be applied easily and evenly. Make sure there are no tangles or knots in your hair to allow the product to work better and to make the application process easier as well.

Step Three - Apply

All you have to do is take the required amount of product based on your hair length. Rub it between your palms and then apply it to damp hair. Make sure the product is spread evenly throughout your scalp and the tips of your hair.

Step Three | Rinse

Massage the product in and leave it on for a while. The product needs to be left on your hair for at least 10 minutes to be able to work its magic.

I usually leave it on my hair for around 30-45 minutes and complete the rest of my pampering routine before I wash it off.

You can use this product once a week as a hair treatment. If you have extremely damaged hair from coloring or other chemical or heat treatments you can go ahead and use it twice a week as well.

Should I Leave It On Overnight?

The brand advises the product to be left on your hair for a minimum of 10 minutes but does not give a cap on how much longer it can be left on.

I've seen a lot of articles and hacks talking about leaving the product on your hair overnight for better results but from what I understand, the product works best on damp hair. The product needs to be able to penetrate into your hair to help in rebonding and treating it. If your hair dries out, I doubt the efficacy would be the same.

With this reasoning in mind, I don't particularly see any benefit of leaving it on your hair for longer than 60-90 minutes or so.

As I did mention, I leave the product on for around 45 minutes and I didn't see a difference between this period and leaving it on overnight.

However, if you do wish to leave it on for longer or overnight, you can go ahead it wouldn't cause any sort of damage.

Benefits of using Olaplex No.3

  • It works wonders for chemically or heat-treated hair that is weak and dry.

  • It is lightweight and creamy. It is easy to rinse off and has a mild fragrance.

  • Helps deal with split ends and moisturizes the tips of your hair.

  • Leaves your hair feeling thicker, and healthier and also adds luster to your hair.

  • It is easy to apply and is absorbed by your damp hair with ease.

  • You will not require too much product either. This is an important factor considering the price point of the product for the given quantity.

Olaplex No. 0 & No. 3 Together?

Olaplex No. 0 is a recent launch by the brand that can be used along with No.3 as it is used to prime your hair for any treatment. You can use this if you need some intensive hair treatment for your hair. You do not need to use them together - No.3 can be used on its own as well.

The benefit of using the products together is that the No.0 product helps boost the benefits of No. 3. Personally, I haven't tried the bond-building treatment yet as I do not have extremely damaged hair.

If you do wish to go ahead with both treatments, all you need to do is brush your hair and apply No.0 all over your dry hair till it is saturated with the product. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then go on with No.3 right after. Your hair will already be damp from the first product so there is no need for additional moisture.
