Salt & Stone Deodorant Review: My Honest Take on the Viral Favorite

Natural deodorant and I have had a love-hate relationship for years. I’ve dabbled in countless brands, from the heavily hyped to the boutique-y, all promising to keep me fresh while being kind to my skin. Spoiler alert: most of them failed miserably. So when I started seeing Salt & Stone all over TikTok, I was skeptical—but intrigued. Could this sleek, understated deodorant be the one to finally live up to the hype?

Let’s face it: switching to natural deodorant isn’t always smooth sailing. Unlike antiperspirants, which use aluminum to block sweat, natural deodorants let your body do its thing. Instead, they focus on neutralizing odor and reducing bacteria. The trade-off? A potential adjustment period where you’re left wondering if you made the right choice.

But for me, the idea of ditching aluminum, synthetic fragrances, and parabens was enough to give it another shot. After months of testing it in every possible situation, here’s my honest take.

First Impressions: Luxe and Low-Key

The first thing that drew me to Salt & Stone was its aesthetic. Minimalist, chic, and worlds apart from the usual "granola" vibe you get with natural deodorants. It felt like a product you’d find on a high-end skincare shelf rather than a health food store.

But what sealed the deal was the scent. I went with Eucalyptus & Cedarwood, and let me tell you—it smells incredible. It’s fresh, earthy, and balanced, like a mini spa moment every time you use it. There’s also a range of other scents, like Neroli & Basil, so you’re not stuck with just one option.

And the best part? The brand checks all the right boxes: cruelty-free, organic ingredients, and eco-friendly packaging.

Salt & Stone uses probiotics to balance the bacteria on your skin, preventing odor before it starts. It also contains hyaluronic acid, which adds hydration, and seaweed extracts, giving it that touch of luxury you didn’t know you needed in a deodorant.

It glides on smoothly, dries quickly, and doesn’t leave behind that sticky, uncomfortable residue that some natural deodorants are infamous for.

The Real Test: Does It Work?

Let’s get down to business - Does it keep you smelling good?

Short answer: yes. Salt & Stone impressed me with its ability to keep odor at bay, even on the most chaotic days. I tested it during workouts, long commutes, and even while moving furniture on a particularly humid afternoon. Through it all, it held up. Of course, like any natural deodorant, it doesn’t stop you from sweating (no aluminum, remember?). But it kept me feeling fresh and, most importantly, confident.

My Personal Experience

Salt & Stone has been a game-changer in my natural deodorant journey. On regular workdays, I found myself catching soft whiffs of its eucalyptus and cedarwood scent throughout the day, which honestly gave me a little boost. It’s rare to find a natural deodorant that doesn’t fade halfway through, and this one passed the test with flying colors.

What stood out to me the most was the confidence it gave me. I didn’t feel the need to second-guess if I smelled fresh, even in moments where I’d typically reach for a reapplication. The formula glides on smoothly, dries quickly, and doesn’t leave that sticky feeling I’ve come to dread with other options.

  • What I Love

One of the biggest wins for Salt & Stone is its all-day freshness. Unlike other natural deodorants that require constant reapplication, this one held up—even on my most chaotic days. Whether it was a busy workday filled with meetings or an intense workout session, I didn’t have to worry about odors creeping in.

Another standout is the skin-friendly formula. If you’ve ever experienced irritation from deodorant after shaving, you know how uncomfortable it can be. With Salt & Stone, I didn’t experience a single instance of redness or itching, which made me love it even more.

Then there are the sophisticated scents. They’re far from the overly sweet or cloying fragrances you get with some natural options. Instead, the scent profiles—like the eucalyptus and cedarwood I chose—are fresh, clean, and elevated, making it feel more like a high-end fragrance than a basic deodorant.

Lastly, the sustainable packaging deserves a mention. Knowing that this product is kind to the planet while delivering great results gives it an extra edge. It’s a small step toward a more eco-conscious routine, which I appreciate.

  • What Could Be Better

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: the price. At $20 a stick, Salt & Stone is definitely on the premium side. While I do believe it’s worth it for the quality and performance, I understand it’s not within everyone’s budget.

There’s also the transfer potential to consider. If you’re not careful and apply too much, you might notice a bit of residue on darker clothing. While it’s not a dealbreaker for me, it’s something to keep in mind if you’re in a rush to get dressed and don’t have time for touch-ups.

Is It Worth the Hype?

In my opinion, yes, absolutely. Salt & Stone combines performance, clean ingredients, and aesthetics in a way that most natural deodorants don’t. It’s not just a product—it’s an experience, from the luxurious scent to the minimal packaging that elevates your vanity.

While the price might make you hesitate, consider it an investment in a product that truly works without compromising on quality. If you’ve been burned by natural deodorants in the past, this one is worth giving a shot.

Switching to natural deodorant can feel like a leap of faith, especially if you’ve had less-than-ideal experiences before. But Salt & Stone proves that you don’t have to choose between performance and clean ingredients.

Love,

Rae
